Well, it appears as though loyalty does have its rewards. Peter Cianchette, a businessman from South Portland, Republican nominee for Governor in 2002 and long-time George Bush supporter has been nominated to be Ambassador to Costa Rica -- which is a beautiful country -- with nice beaches, great food and wonderful people….definitely a plum assignment.
Although the nomination process may take some time to work its way through the Senate, there is no reason to believe that he would not be approved. I'm sure that Costa Rica would be a nice change--at least after this winter!
Of course, insiders will only be interested in his other political job-- that of National Committeeman for the Maine Republican Party. Competition for that job is where the real battle will occur in Republican circles here in Maine.
