Attack of the Ronulans

Republican insiders are quietly sounding the alarm across the State at the prospect of a Congressman Ron Paul win at the Republican caucuses to be held this weekend. Romney and McCain supporters and operatives are busily rallying the troops asking them to take a few hours to show up at the weekend caucuses.

It’s hard to imagine how a caucus that is nothing more than a beauty contest, can generate so much last minute activity.

Unless I am mistaken, there is a “straw poll vote” and the selection of delegates - who must remain uncommitted by party rule. These delegates will then attend the Maine Republican Party convention in May to select the “real delegates” that will go to the national convention in St. Paul this summer.

Hmmm....St. Paul --- -- Ron Paul - I see a conspiracy in the making.

Still, it’s nice to see the Ronulans stir the pot and frighten the Republican establishment.

Hi Wally,
you were supposed to keep this secret!

You obviously didn't get The Memo
about He Who Must Never Be Mentioned.

Rupert will have your hide for this!

01/30/08 9:13 am

Oh no!

So, will Dr. Paul advocate secession in his victory speech?

Or has he put that (and the race-baiting, and the gay conspiracy theories, and the anti-semitism) behind him?

01/30/08 9:27 am

Oh PLEASE!

"So, will Dr. Paul advocate secession in his victory speech?

Or has he put that (and the race-baiting, and the gay conspiracy theories, and the anti-semitism) behind him?"

That's getting old. Ron Paul does not believe in any of the things you attribute to him. I am shocked at how many outright vicious liars seem to think it's OK to spread these lies about one of the few real honest people we have working in government. Do you also lie to your children Walt?

01/30/08 10:04 am

My mistake, Dave

Should have included the source: http://www.tnr.com/politics/story.html?id=e2f15397-a3c7-4720-ac15-4532a7...

That link is to an article in The New Republic about his history of publishing that kind of stuff in his newsletters.

Which, I might add, Dr. Paul has never denied.

01/30/08 10:08 am

The New Republic? Isn't that

The New Republic? Isn't that a Leftie rag that just go busted posting lies from a supposed soldier in Iraq?

You Lefties must be scared indeed.

Ron Paul

Walt really shows his ignorance. Dr. Paul DID deny writing the articles in the newletters but admits that he was neglectful in not keeping a closer on what material went in it under his name. The writers of those articles were identified and Dr. Paul dismissed them.

If one doesn't know the facts one is better off remaining silent and not looking the fool!

01/30/08 10:43 am

Fixing the outcome

He's actually denied the specious TNR screed several times. You just haven't been listening, since you obviously liked what you read the first time. Ears, open sesame! Eyes, focus!

It is quite funny how the GOP local bluehairs use Ron Paul -- one of our OWN candidates -- as a bogeyman to roust out the Rip Van Winkles. "Come and vote for Anyone But Paul!" they cry.

This is the same tactic behind Paul's stolen Louisiana win, which went to McCain only because the party actually extended the delegate-gathering deadline by two days when it had become clear that Paul had won on the original deadline.

Absolutely corrupt, but somewhat to be expected in Lousiana. Are we going to see the same dirty games here in Maine, too?

01/30/08 10:45 am

Also note that Nelson

Also note that Nelson Linder, NAACP president in Texas has come out in support of Ron Paul against that negative attack:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvFLSwDvBUA

Ron Paul is a libertarian, and by definition believes in the individual god-given rights of all people. To call him a racist is ignorant, and completely backwards. No one can point to a single thing that Ron Paul has said in his 30 years of public service to the contrary.

Fraudulent whisper campaigns on the rise

It is interesting that anonymous and slanderous email campaigns are becoming part of campaigns today. This post about Ron Paul is absurd and reminds me of an email I got yesterday claiming that Barack Obama is a Muslim and implying that he harbors terrorist sympathies. Politics can be vicious and small.

Ron Paul deserves your vote -- or doesn't -- based on whether you support his approach of lower taxes, limited government, free trade, adherence to the Constitution and a restrained foreign policy.

01/30/08 11:15 am

Ron Paul

You know folks, for decades the people of this country have been at the mercy of the establishment wings of both the Republican and Democratic Parties. Each party has taken their respective turns at the leadership role of this country and yet, both parties have done little to ensure the prosperity and happiness of the people of this once-great land. They present their respective candidates who are acceptable to their agendas and they spew out the same old empty promises they always make, promises that they either can’t keep or have no intention of keeping, but it gets them votes.

For years we have allowed these entrenchment politicians to embed themselves into the flesh of this nation like parasitic ticks, sucking the life blood from this country and its people. Every four years we go through the same process and usually we are given the same old choices which are no real choices at all, this time it is different and we have the chance to make a real decisive difference in the direction this country is being led. We have the chance to elect Ron Paul in 2008.

Ron Paul is one of the most knowledgeable and level headed men I have ever met. I am constantly amazed as I read his writings listen to his speeches and watch him on interviews; he is the definition of common sense and common sense is exactly what this country needs. His knowledge of economics, of history, of the Constitution, of foreign affairs is absolutely astounding and I have yet to see another candidate even come close to his abilities or his logic. All the other candidates spout out the same ole dribble, the same recycled tripe that they have spit out for years; they act as though their party is more important than the country and their party line more important than the Law of the Land: the Constitution. It is time to put America First, to put Americans First and Defend this Land, its Sovereignty, its Law and it’s Future.

Dr. Paul is the only candidate that even brings up the issue of our failing monetary system.

Consider this: a person making $32,000 per year today has the equivalent purchasing power of $5,907.40 1970 dollars. So, the same person making $15.38 per hour today is equal to making $2.84 per hour in real purchasing power in 1970 dollars. It is not the price of goods and services that have risen so much, but the purchasing power of our dollar that has been so drastically reduced. Our standard of living has been effectively reduced through fiat money inflation.

Is there any wonder that poverty is becoming rampant? The government has no other choice but enforce minimum wages in order to keep the working poor at some level of subsistence. At the current $5.85 per hour a person has the same 1970 purchasing power of $1.08 per hour, at 40 hours per week that person is effectively making $43.20 per week to make ends meet.

What are we waiting on, to become serfs of the State?

VOTE RON PAUL...STOP THE THIEF...STOP THE WASTE....STOP THE PARASITES

01/30/08 11:29 am

Walt Please

Walt...it is ashamed that there are still people like you who have bought the story-line of the Smearbund line and sinker. I dare say that you have never really read any of the vast writings or books that Dr. Paul has written over the years and you ignore the facts.

Concerning racism, I doubt if a racist would have several close friends like Walter Williams, of whom Dr. Paul said would make a great running mate. Walter Williams just happens to be an African American. Also another friend of Dr. Pauls, for over 20 years, is the head of the Austin NAACP and has stated, in no uncertain terms, that Dr. Paul doesn't have a racist bone in his body.

The only ones who must put something behind them are people like you who cling to the propaganda and lies of the media and the Yellow News SmearMeisters. Shameful that you would even put your name to such grossly inaccurate and falsehoods.

01/30/08 11:35 am

Jon Sander- read James

Jon Sander- read James Kirchick’s lastest blog where he fingers “Lee Rockwell” and how he “betrayed Ron Paul’s trust.

In the original “The Angry White Man” article, Kirchick singles out exactly FIVE racist quotes that spanned form 1990-1992 when Lee Rockwell was the Editor N’ Chief of the newsletters. Kirchick categorized his complaints into race, anti-Semitism, gay bashing, etc, and 4 of the 5 “racist” quotes were bashing MLK day.

Now Ron Paul voted against the “racist” Ronald Reagan in 1983 to approve a national MLK day and he said it was one of the two possible unconstitutional he has made in his life. He kept a clean journal from 1978-1990.

Waking up Republicans

There is only one Republican who believes the things that were once part of the Republican platform and he's not afraid to say them out loud. People like myself, lifelong Democrats, identify with his message as do Independents, Libretarians and anyone else who does not buy in to this fear and war mongering and expansion of government. There is another choice, people. VOTE RON PAUL 2008!

01/30/08 11:48 am

McCain is the real racist

John McCain is the race-baiter, not Ron Paul. John McCain was racist in the SC debate, read it here:
John McCain's during SC debates

Unfortunately it took segregationist Governor Wallace to reveal the truth that "there's not a dime's worth of difference between" Republicans and Democrats. The Democrats willingly went along with the War in Iraq, suspension of Habeas Corpus, banning books like "America Deceived' from Amazon, warrant-less wiretapping and refusing to investigate 9/11 properly. They are both guilty of treason.
Support Dr. Ron Paul and save this great nation.

Ron Paul

I'm a 'leftie'; an active socialist to be exact. And American, living overseas these last 19 years.

But....Ron Paul has more than a few supporters from my side, even though we differ with him on some basic issues.

You see - he's honest and open, and for the People. I can live with that rather easily. For many of his principles are our principles also.

You might be pleasantly surprised at those who support Paul. It's not the 'lefties' who oppose him, but the entrenched establishment.

01/30/08 11:59 am

Once again Walt, amazingly

Once again Walt, amazingly you have swallowed the swill of Yellow Jounalism. Does it taste that good to you?

The original author of the first article admitted lying about Dr. Paul to get a rise out of his supporters. Then they did everthing in their power to dig up some sort of dirt against him in an attempt to smear and side track his campaign.

If you have read anything Dr. Paul has said about this dead issue you would know that the only thing he may remotely be guilty of is ignorance that people were using his name on a newsletter. If you were intelligent about the issue you would also know that there have been newsletters printed, without the direct knowledge or consent, of persons in politics, religion, finance and showbiz before.

This "he said" type of journalism is far from journalism and its a pity that some people eat it up, but then again, my guess is that you buy the National Enquirer every chance you get to keep up with the "news", am I right?

01/30/08 12:01 pm

Earl, that's pretty interesting

I find it very interesting that a socialist would consider Ron Paul. Interesting because his positions are diametrically opposed to the philosophy of socialism. I have studied Socialism for years in comparitive studies and found one particular book by Ludwig Von Mises very informative on the subject, entitled Socialism. Another good one is Intellectuals and Socialism by F.A. Hayek.

I would be interested to know, if you have read them, what you think of the premise of those works.

Anyway, welcome to the Revolution. I agree with you, those who oppose Ron Paul are entrenchment parasites from both political parties and they have sucked the life-blood from this nation and its people. It is time to purge such parasites from our land.

01/30/08 12:15 pm

I hope many people read

I hope many people read this. Most people are good people and want the same basic things. The left wing and the right wing have different ideas about accomplishing things. It is far past time, and probably too late, for the American people to understand that there is no difference between the major parties. In a gradual process, the left works to destroy the country just as the right works to destroy the country. The American people are fooled into discussing how the pictures on the Titanic should be arranged. Politicians take advantage of this for their own selfish interests. Ron Paul is telling you that we have hit an iceberg.

Let's suppose the iceberg wasn't so bad. Let's suppose how those pictures are arranged really are the most important things to discuss. The irony is, is that Ron Paul is the only candidate that truly supports, and has the record to prove it, almost all of the right's issues. In addition, even though Dr. Paul often speaks of a futuristic and ideal world, Ron Paul is the only candidate whose policies can save the social programs that the left wants.

People have failed to understand that international bankers are consolidating the wealth (stealing out of everyone's pocket books) and eliminating the middle class. People are too interested in reality television, football and golf. People are helping to destroy the country because of their reckless and uninformed, although good intentioned, opinions.

People like to laugh and snicker. I hope they enjoy their money losing its value, their taxes rising, their pension funds being taken, their television-induced comatose state, and fluoride lowering their IQ between 10 and 20 points. Their televisions won't save them from what is coming. Whether it will be 10 months, or 10 years from now, things are going to get very bad. Worst of all, I am beginning to have doubts as to whether or not the American people will have enough sense to know who has done what to them.

Thanks so much you stupid idiots for playing your part in creating this mess. Thanks so much for watching television. Thanks for not understanding how things work. Thanks for not taking the time to read serious journals where the elite have OPENLY EXPLAINED that they were going to do this to you. Thanks so much for getting angry at my comments because you are still too stupid to wake up an make your ancestors proud. Remember that me, and others like me, HATE YOUR LACK OF ACTION right down to the bones for the part you have played in all of this. The elite know what they are and what they believe. You people though are all together different; you are mostly idiots and my family will ALSO have to suffer because of your stupidity. People like me will remember your stupidity when things get bad. In spite of your stupidity, most of us will STILL do our best to help you.

God help us all.

01/30/08 12:21 pm

Ron Paul is not an anti-semite or a gay basher or a bigot

Walt, please point me in the direction of references that might back -up what you say about Ron Paul and gays, Jews, blacks, etc. Specifically, something RON PAUL WROTE OR SAID, not things other people have written and said that you are pathetically attributing to Ron Paul.

How is Ron Paul an anti-Semite? Because he doesn't believe we should send any money to ANY foreign nation? How does that equate to anti-semitism, specifically? Or do you believe we should cease foreign aid for everyone except Israel? That would be kind of self-centered and unbalanced, wouldn't it? Aren't we supposed to remain un-entangled with free trade and travel with all nations, according to our founding father's wishes?

You are a shill. Now go back in that dark hole from whence you came.

01/30/08 12:26 pm

Yeah, Walt, your BIG mistake was relying on that rag TNR

Okay. Here is another source for you:

http://www.antiwar.com/justin/?articleid=12102

Asked and answered. These lies about Ron Paul have been extensively researched and refuted. Maybe you want to start doing a little research yourself instead of regurgitating the swill that TNR throws up. By his own admission, turns out the "unnamed source" in that original TNR report was no other than that white supremicist slime, waste of air, der furer White himself, who admitted in a posting on his site DAYS BEFORE THE TNR ARTICLE CAME OUT that he wanted to derail Ron Paul because "he's got a lot of Jews working for him." In his post, he even mentioned that he had been talking to the TNR people and was their "source" for that smearjob. So if this is the best you've got, you better get a whole better class of sources.

Have a nice day.

As a proud Ronulan I must state for the record that We The People of Tx are sick and tired of the corrupt government officials in "The Establishment" which includes Liberal McCain, Flip-Flop Romney,Evangelical Huckster who supports GWB unending wars and occupations to FORCE FEED Freedom to 3rd world countries, buddies to the end Hillary and McCains dual respect for one anothers corruption of American Sovereignty, Obamas stated "Change" that is NO CHANGE from the TED KENNEDY status Quo, and the uninformed American citizens that FEED into this idiotic behavior. Just stop the bus, We The People really need the United States citizens to Take Back Our Country NOW!

FREEDOM AND A CANDIDATE TO VOTE FOR

I am so thankful that Ron Paul is running. It is nice to have a candidate to vote for. A candidate that believes in the Constitution, inherent value to our money, civil liberties, and limited government.

Friday is the next money bomb PLEASE DONATE.

MORE IMPORTANTLY, please vote in your primary and talk a friend or two into it. We must continue to grow momentum exponentially!!!

Maine is a great state that believes in freedom, please demonstrate this to the nation by showing your support for Dr. Paul. We will be trying to have a great moneybomb on the day of Maine's primary.

Go Dr. Paul!!!!!!

01/30/08 1:38 pm

Ron Paul is the only

Ron Paul is the only candidate who brings honesty, integrity, and authenticity into the presidential race. That's why he keeps raising money and gaining support, despite character assasinations and opposition from the political establishment, mainstream media, and the big banks.

For a great satire on the president, the mainstream media, and the war on terror, see this YouTube music video from the international award-winning zombie musical feature film, "Song of the Dead." (www.songofthedead.com)It' stars horror movie veteran Reggie Bannister (Phantasm, Wishmaster, Bubba Ho-tep) as the president of the U.S. The filmmaker, Chip Gubera, is giving a share of his profits from DVD sales to the Ron Paul campaign. Show me evidence, people!

Whichever one of you said this:

The original author of the first article admitted lying about Dr. Paul to get a rise out of his supporters. Then they did everthing in their power to dig up some sort of dirt against him in an attempt to smear and side track his campaign.

Got a link to that? If so, post it.

Personally, I doubt you have any evidence of that, but if you do, I'll gladly eat crow.

I've based everything I've said on a well-sourced, fact-checked article in a national magazine. I've yet to see any of the Ron Paul-ites cite a single source, other than Dr. Paul saying he admires Martin Luther King.

Oh yeah, and he has a black friend. Great, good for him. So does John Rocker.

Unless someone forged all those newsletters with his name on them, (and who would bother forging the name of a nobody congressman from Texas 10 years before he ran for president?) then he published racist swill.

And I would never, ever vote for someone who wrote things like that. Period.

01/30/08 2:08 pm

I voted for Ron Paul in the

I voted for Ron Paul in the Iowa Caucus, and I am long time democrat. I like Ron Paul and feel his honesty is what got my vote. I feel he doesn't get a fair shake from TV and newspapers in Iowa.

01/30/08 2:10 pm

Hide Walt!

The Ronulans are coming! So far, 170,000 Ronulans have already voted for Dr. Paul. There are well over another 100,000 in Meet-ups, preparing to strike. With our internet organization, grassroots fundraising and die-hard loyalty to Dr. Paul, you better pray our r3VOLution remains peaceful! We have more boots on the ground than currently serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. And the Ronulan army continues to grow!

01/30/08 2:11 pm

Oh no! Attack of the Paultards!

Of course I hope you stay peaceful! If not, you might bomb our economy back to the iron age!

(I was gonna do a William Jennings Bryan joke here, but I'm afraid it'd be over the top.)

01/30/08 2:17 pm

Try spinning harder

Ron Paul has not denied the newsletters are real though so your "evidence" is worthless .They stand regardless . Now stop side-tracking and answer the questions..

http://ronpaulracistquiz.blogspot.com/

01/30/08 2:54 pm

Yawn ..., Walt, you're soooo boring ....

Ron Paul is too intense a candidate for you to comprehend.

All you can do is repeat the silly GOP smear talking points.

Are you a Great American dittohead, too?

01/30/08 3:00 pm

On no! Walturd makes a dire warning!

Be afraid of Ron Paul, Walturd has slithered out to warn the world of that egads! racist who wants to set non-violent black drug offenders free so they can return to their families and lives. Behold! Walturd is now telling us that the anti-war crowd might bomb our economy back to the iron age...oh that must be because the Neocons bombed it back to pre-stone age and its going to take a while for Ron Paul and his supporters to get things back on track. Walturd the omnipotent character assasinator - What will the public do when Walturd slithers back under the rock from whence he came?

01/30/08 3:02 pm

What questions?

He's too intense! You're right!

Calling MLK a "comsymp" is definitely intense!

The class act continues...

01/30/08 3:03 pm

Walt, Walt, Walt

It appears that you love the sewer more than actual facts. Ron Paul was not the author of the newsletters, period. If he were the author of such distasteful dribble it would have buried him politically long ago, would it not? Use your head.

Now, I am trying to find the article where the TRN writer James Kirchick states he lied in the article. If you recall, the New York Times ran the same article and then retracted it and apologized to Ron Paul and his supporters for publishing such a falsehood.

From what I know about racism they are so adamant about their separation from anyone of another race that they would never have them as friends. Dr. Paul has some very long-term and close friendships with people of several different races. Now, certainly that doesn't make sense, does it. Additionally, from the racist I have run into, especially in some parts of the country, they would never shake hands, much less kiss an African American person on the cheek. I have personally seen Dr. Paul kiss, hug, shake hands with African Americans, Hispanics and Asians. A "Racist"...nah, doesn't fit his words, his actions or his character and that has been proven time and time again over the last 3 decades.

Now, for a "racist" to sponsor a House Resolution Honoring an African American seems to be a contradiction, don't you think?

Here is what Ron Paul said concerning the 65th Birthday of Muhammad Ali.

"Mr. Speaker, I rise in support of H. Res. 58. I saw Muhammad Ali as a man of great courage, and I admired him for this, not because of the courage that it took to get in a ring and fight men bigger than he, but because of his stance in 1967.

In 1967, he was 25 years old. He was the heavyweight champion of the world, and for religious beliefs, he practiced what Martin Luther King made popular, civil disobedience, because he disagreed with the war. I thought his comments were rather astute at the time and were not complex, but he merely said, I have no quarrel with the Viet-Cong. He said the Viet-Cong never called him a name, and because of his religious convictions, he said he did not want to serve in the military. He stood firm, a man of principle, and I really admired this as a quality.

He is known, of course, for his athletic skills and his humanitarian concerns, and these are rightly mentioned in a resolution like this. But I do want to emphasize this because, to me, it was so important and had such impact, in reality, what Muhammad Ali did eventually led to getting rid of the draft, and yet we as a people and we as a Congress still do not have the conviction that Muhammad Ali had, because we still have the selective service; we say, let us not draft now, but when the conditions are right, we will bring back the draft and bring back those same problems that we had in the 1960s.

I see what Muhammad Ali did as being very great. He deserves this recognition, but we should also praise him for being a man of principle and willing to give up his title for 3 years at the age of 25 at the prime of his career. How many of us give up something to stand on principle? He was a man of principle. He believed it and he stood firm, so even those who may disagree with his position may say at least he stood up for what he believed in. He suffered the consequences and fortunately was eventually vindicated."

Sure Walt, that certainly sounds like a racist doesn't it? Of course I realize that they don't make a vaccine for ignorance Walt, but at the very least you should have the ability to look at the writings and speeches of Dr. Paul for the last 30 years or so and try as you might you cannot correlate the vast amount of his writings over the years with any trace of racism what-so-ever. If you are incapable of using the attributes of reason to deduct from his writings the character of the man himself, then I pity your incapacitation.

However, if you will honestly look at all the actual words of Dr. Paul, I dare say that, if you are honest with yourself, you will come away with the sound conclusion that this man cannot be a racist. Besides, it completely flys in the face of every principle of libertarianism. In other words Walt, it makes no sense to base your opinions upon sources such as TNR and James Kirchick, especially if you read other article by Kirchick and compare his character in such matters. Looking at Kirchick's character I would say that anyone who takes the word of such a man as fact must be of questionable character himself.

You should also ask yourself why, why does the establishment of both parties hate Ron Paul so much? The reason is that his message threatens the status quo that they must maintain in order to hold on to the reigns of power. Ron Paul is advocating the destruction of their golden goose and they simply can't afford to lose the goose that laid the golden egg.

I think you are wasting your energy and your intelligence on the continuation of your Smearbund against Dr. Paul. Don't you have something better to do?

01/30/08 3:15 pm

Ron Paul supporters will NOT face reality

You Ron Paul Supporters are still not answering the questions and churning out the cult responses. Here is another set to look at and contemplate as well as the link I gave for a third time .

http://ronpaulsurvivalreport.blogspot.com/2007/12/faq-ron-paul-and-his-r...

http://ronpaulracistquiz.blogspot.com/

If you are all so smart and honest , if Ron Paul is such a paragon of virtue , it should be easy for you to have these points comprehensively answered . I don't want your fan cult fiction , I want you to engage with the real world .

01/30/08 3:27 pm

You try spinning harder

It seems that you and Walt are the feeble SpinMeisters here. You base you opinions on highly questionable "evidence" and yet you ignore over 30 years of Dr. Pauls writings, actions and speeches that totaly contradict any possible accusation of racism of any type.

Now, take a look at the long public history of Ron Paul, he has NEVER dodged and issue or the truth about any issue even when the issue was not politically correct. He has never backed down from confronting any issue that he stood on. He has been plain spoken, he has shot straight on ever issue he brings up. Once again, your spin is contrary to logic and rational deduction based on the facts.

But by all means, keep spinning, keep the smearbund going because obviously thats all you have opinions on.

01/30/08 3:39 pm

The reality is one that if seems you are not willing to face...

Every single issue within those links have been debunked, so by what logic do you base your reality upon?

If you are honest, especially with yourself, you would tell us if you have ever read anything that Dr. Paul has ever written, or his speeches on the floor of the House of Representatives for the last couple of decades? Now, have you read those writings, any of his books, any of this speeches?

So, if the truth be known, your reality is solely based upon the supposition given on a few websites whose sole intent is to bash Dr. Paul. Is not that an accurate assessment of your mentatily? I dare say it is since I highly doubt that you can correlate any of Dr. Pauls actual words or writings for the last 30 years with anything on either of the websites you have provided as "PROOF" for your position and opinion.

So, you based you opinion solely upon what you have read on a few websites, is that not true? I myself have read some of the craziest things in my life on the web, in fact I dare say that if you want to find anything online you can and perhaps you might even believe it, obviously some people do, but that does not make it true or factual.

Now you say that you want to engage in the real world, tell me if you really beleive your own words then tell me have you read anything Dr. Paul has published?

01/30/08 3:48 pm

I like Ron Paul a lot but his supporters make me ill

Walt asserts that newsletters bearing Ron Paul's name published some rascist and gay-bashing items. David replies "Dr. Paul DID deny writing the articles in the newletters but admits that he was neglectful in not keeping a closer on what material went in it under his name. The writers of those articles were identified and Dr. Paul dismissed them."

This is a presidential campaign. Anything remotely distasteful in a candidates past is bound to come up. The only way you can combat a smear is with a reasoned presentation of the facts.

But many of the commenters seem to feel that the way to combat a smear is with more smears in the form of divisive and ugly name-calling combined with outright denial of what David, and I believe Dr. Paul, acknowledges to be facts.

As a former Goldwater republican, I like Dr. Paul a lot. I have a Ron Paul for President sign in my yard. But I don't have time for nasty fools, and I doubt he does.

When Paulettes copy and paste...

Republicae - I haven't seen anything that debunks my original point. You claim that Ron Paul didn't write the newsletters: Prove it!

Did he deny that they were his newsletters, his organization? Show me that denial! You make a lot of claims, but unlike me, you don't seem to have any source other than your memory.

I'm not resorting to personal attacks (unlike many here.) I'm stating simple facts, as I've understood them. If you can show me anything to disprove those facts, I'd be happy to see it.

Lastly - your contention that racists don't have black friends is a VERY simplistic understanding of racism. It's usually not that simple.

Leaving aside the possibility that Dr. Paul has simply had a change of heart over the years, which is certainly possible, there's no shortage of examples of people who hold extremely prejudicial views without being openly hostile (or violent, etc...) Frankly, it's common.

Now, as for his comments about Muhammad Ali - I agree with him. I'm glad to see them.

But if he really wrote (or published) all the nasty things that TNR reported, then he still needs to explain them. Just as George Wallace's late-in-life conversion to integration didn't erase the memory of his racist rantings, neither does this.

Now - as I've written before - if he REALLY didn't write this, or publish it, or approve it, and the TNR article just made it all up.... PROVE IT.

I'd be happy to have one fewer racist white dude in the world. (I'm sure we can all agree on that.)

Well GOOD then!

Fine, because he never wrote any of it. Are you paying any attention at ALL?

PRESS RELEASE RE: THE NEWSLETTERS:
http://www.ronpaul2008.com/press-releases/125/ron-paul-statement-on-the-...

January 8, 2008 5:28 am EST

ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA – In response to an article published by The New Republic, Ron Paul issued the following statement:

“The quotations in The New Republic article are not mine and do not represent what I believe or have ever believed. I have never uttered such words and denounce such small-minded thoughts.

“In fact, I have always agreed with Martin Luther King, Jr. that we should only be concerned with the content of a person's character, not the color of their skin. As I stated on the floor of the U.S. House on April 20, 1999: ‘I rise in great respect for the courage and high ideals of Rosa Parks who stood steadfastly for the rights of individuals against unjust laws and oppressive governmental policies.’

“This story is old news and has been rehashed for over a decade. It's once again being resurrected for obvious political reasons on the day of the New Hampshire primary.

“When I was out of Congress and practicing medicine full-time, a newsletter was published under my name that I did not edit. Several writers contributed to the product. For over a decade, I have publicly taken moral responsibility for not paying closer attention to what went out under my name.”

01/30/08 4:38 pm

That was a joke right?

how do you know he didn't write them? A Ron Paul supporter told you?

Don't you think that's a tiny bit naive? Or do you just not take this kind of thing seriously?

Personally, I'm deeply offended by that kind of language, so I want to get to the bottom of it. If it's true, then I'll know not to support him. If it's not, then I won't consider it as I make my decision.

What is so hard to understand about this? If Romney or Huckabee had written something like this (or it appeared in the "Romney News" in 1991) wouldn't you think it was important to look into?

Thanks HPS

Finally! Someone answers with a real response.

I'll think it over.

Hey there all,
Walt, its fun to read this whole discourse on the false claims of Ron Paul being a racist, but its time to pull your head out of the sand and pay attention to what the others have been saying.
I must ask, are you a "9/11 truther"? Because following your lines of reasoning and checking out the links you've posted, makes me think that this is how your mind works. Lets throw 1000 false claims out into the open, and see if anyone can disprove them right now!! Your logic isn't just fuzzy, its woolly.
And what is the deal with you people? Do you love war and horrific imperialism? Do you like innocent people around the world being killed in droves to lace the pockets of the power hungry few?
Do you like working till June to fund these campaigns of horror with your hard earned tax dollars?
Please, get over yourself and look at the big picture.
I think there is enough evidence in his myriad of writings to prove once and for all that Ron Paul is no racist.

hmm.

This is pretty much the issue:

“When I was out of Congress and practicing medicine full-time, a newsletter was published under my name that I did not edit. Several writers contributed to the product. For over a decade, I have publicly taken moral responsibility for not paying closer attention to what went out under my name.”

Not paying close enough attention is putting it quite mildly. You'd think that someone who feels such strong affinity with African-Americans would have been outraged to see that kind of filth associated with him.

At least he is condemning it. (Although given that he's running for president and isn't an idiot, it's not that surprising.)

01/30/08 4:48 pm

hey

No - definitely not a 9/11 truther. Those people are batshit crazy. (Or stupid.)

Actually no, I didn't throw out a bunch of accusations. I read one very specific one in a highly reputable magazine and posted a link to it. I also shared my opinion about it.

It's not that outlandish really. Happens on the internets all the time.
