U.S. Sen. John McCain: Getty Images PhotoThe Maine Republican Party issued a statement Wednesday dismissing a protest staged outside a Portland gas station by the liberal political organization, MoveOn.
MoveOn was scheduled to launch the protest as part of its "National Day of Action for an Oil Free President," an attempt at discrediting the energy record of presumptive Republican presidential nominee, U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).
The state GOP, however, said the group was off-base.
“It is ironic MoveOn is protesting John McCain when they ought to be protesting Barack Obama,” said Maine GOP Chairman Mark Ellis said in a statement on the party's website.
“McCain has proposed policies – including a summer gas tax holiday – that offer real solutions. Meanwhile, Barack Obama wants to impose even higher energy taxes and he opposes every initiative that would offer real relief. Obama’s only suggestion is to impose a windfall profits tax on oil companies."
It was quite a week for Democrats in Denver and it would appear that our State Treasurer has recovered 20 million dollars that was all but ... >

Why would you report on a
Why would you report on a formulaic GOP press release rather than the event that they're responding to?
How does a statement on a website rate higher in importance than a public event and democratic engagement?
Is this bias, or just laziness?
"real" solutions like "gas
"real" solutions like "gas tax holiday " ...
then why does just about every single reputable economist say this "real" solution ... isn't.
What a crock.
I suppose
to liberals a price decrease isn't a solution to the problem of high prices. How is decreasing the price not a solution again? It's not a permanent, long-term solution - but neither is the economic stimulus package. Both are short term fixes designed to help the economy. Nobody is claiming a gas tax suspension would solve the problem of high fuel prices, and I've heard no economists ever say that lower taxes are a bad thing.
Moveon Protest
John McCain hasn't proposed anything of any value to deal with the energy crisis just the same old Oil Company press releases.
I also wonder why you have no coverage of the actual event but instead report on the propaganda from the GOP.
"How is decreasing the price
"How is decreasing the price not a solution again?"
When it's NOT a price decrease (the base price isn't effected) but a temporary tax reduction that reduces the already too low amount of funds available to maintain and repair vital infrastructure.
Duh
... but I guess that's OK because the US hasn't had any bridges collapse or anything.
Or since it's Republicans talking we could just run up the deficit and force our grandchildren to pay for ANOTHER one of their follies.
No thanks
