McCain: ‘I will compete and win in the State of Maine’

Presidential nominee John McCain said Monday that he plans to be competitive in Maine.

Judge to name lead counsel in Hannaford breach

PORTLAND—A federal judge plans to issue an order this week designating the lead counsel in a class-action lawsuit arising from last winter's data breach at Hannaford Bros.

State finishes fiscal year with surplus

AUGUSTA -- The state finished the 2008 fiscal year with a General Fund surplus of $56 million, the governor's office announced today.

The state's Highway Fund also finished the fiscal year with a small surplus of $2.5 million. (Maine Today, Susan M. Cover)

Federal farm bill to benefit Maine food pantries

PORTLAND—Maine food pantries say they're seeing a steep increase in demand this year.

Moscow increases tax rate

MOSCOW -- The tax rate for the town of Moscow will increase from $15 to $16.60 per $1,000 assessed valuation this year, according to town officials.

Appropriations include $688,461 for the town's share of School Administrative District 13's budget, $379,099 raised at town meeting and $146,041 for county taxes. (Morning Sentinel, Staff)
