Money is pouring into the U.S. Senate campaigns of incumbent Susan Collins, R-Bangor, and challenger, current Rep. Tom Allen, D-Portland.
Both campaigns earned just over $1 million between April 1 and June 30. Collins, however, has an advantage of $2 million in cash on hand.
The reports are not yet available on the FEC Web site. The totals below were provided by the campaigns.
Total raised last quarter: $1,056,469
Total raised: $6.5 million
Cash on hand: $5.1 million
Total raised last quarter: $1,000,874
Total raised: $4.7 million
Cash on hand: $3.1 million
*Campaign spokeswoman Carol Andrews notes in a release that of this quarter’s 4,587 donors, 2,586 are new contributors. Also, 75 percent of the quarter’s total came from individuals, with the most common contribution being $100.
Kevin Kelley, spokesman for the Collins campaign: "Senator Collins is fortunate to enjoy such overwhelming support. This strong fundraising quarter not only shows that those of us who live in Maine appreciate Senator Collins' continued hard work and dedication to our state, but it also helps to ensure that her campaign will have the resources that it will need to communicate Senator Collins' long record of bipartisan accomplishments in the U.S. Senate."
Andrews: "Contributors recognize Tom Allen's record of accomplishments and sound judgment in opposing the disastrous policies of the Bush Administration. They are hungry for change for Maine and America and know that with Tom Allen, they will get it.”

What the hell does that
What the hell does that mean?
"with the most common contribution being $100."
Is Andrews saying that if you line up all of the contributions the 100 dollar one occurred the most?
Or is she saying the average contribution is 100 bucks? I think that if you do the math - it is north of 200 bucks.
More Allen lies
This is just one more example of Carol Andrews and her boss Tom Allen trying to fib their way into office. The whole game here is to create the illusion of some Howard Dean Grassroots Revival, when in fact no one in Maine knows or likes Tom Allen.
Thus his 25 point poll deficit despite over $1 million in attack ads against Collins and a full year of active campaigning by Tommy No-Show.
Let's not forget that it was Andrews' firm, where she served as VP, who was accused of playing games with the Mark Foley pervert Instant Message transcripts. Instead of releasing them to authorities, there is speculation that they held them until it was politically advantageous. This means her firm would have known a minor was being solicited for sex and allowed it to continue for months without alerting authorities, all for the sake of knocking off a GOP congressman.

This is the kind of scum Tom Allen has hired to run his campaign, so don't be surprised to see tactics like 'most frequent donation' quotes, I'm sure it will only get worse as we go along.
Senate
Collins is one of the least-effective senators and is so tied to Bush that she will need a heavy financial advantage to survive in a democratic year. Right now, she has as 1.6:1 COH advantage. No republican survived in 2006 running for the senate with that small of an edge.
Watch for this one to be a hot finish.
