U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe is the 20th richest member of Congress, Roll Call reported today.
However, Roll Call prefaces the report by saying that their list is based on lawmakers’ financial disclosure forms, which are not always reliable.
Here is what the Capitol Hill publication says about Snowe, whose worth is $15.05 million:
“Snowe’s net worth is largely tied to her husband’s position as chairman of the board of Education Management Corp., a Pittsburgh-based education company. Snowe lists her husband’s stock in Education Management as an asset worth $5 million to $25 million. In last year’s disclosure form, that asset was valued at $1 million to $5 million.
“He also holds stock options worth $1 million to $5 million. The couple jointly holds mutual funds shares worth more than $2 million.”
Snowe is married to former Gov. John “Jock McKernan.
According to Snowe’s disclosure form, she and McKernan own stock in American International Group, which was among the corporations bailed out by the federal government last week. Snowe owns between $1,001 and $15,000 in dividends and interest in AIG Sun America.
Among her and McKernan’s biggest stock holdings are in Key Bank National Association, Old Westbury funds, Spartan US Equity Index, Fidelity Contrafund and Federal Home Loan Bank.
