PORTLAND - Two months ago Congressman and U.S. Senate nominee Tom Allen called on third parties who intended to air negative television and radio ads against Susan Collins or him to stay out so Mainers could have a discussion of the issues.

He asked Susan Collins to join him in that public request, and he said at the time he would denounce negative tv or radio ads by third parties that name or reference himself or Collins. Collins refused Allen's request.

Portland, ME – Two days after the Portland Press Herald endorsed his Democratic bid to represent Maine's First District in Congress, Iraq War veteran Adam Cote posted a video of Chellie Pingree, Mark Lawrence and Ethan Strimling committing to impeachment.  The video shows their pledge to stand up on the House floor in the 17 days between being sworn into office and the inauguration of a new President to "demand an immediate vote on impeachment" of President Bush and Vice President Cheney. 

"This is a defining, substantive issue difference in this election," said Cote.  "Gas prices are through the roof.  We're at war.  Working families are struggling to make ends meet.  Chellie, Mark and Ethan have committed that their first act representing you and Maine in Congress would be to lead a bitter, partisan attack on what the Portland Press Herald called a 'pointless political gesture.'  If elected, my commitment is to focus immediately and every day on improving our economy, bringing gas prices down and ending this war responsibly.  Voters have a clear choice on June 10 between real change and even more bitter politics-as-usual." 

Measure Would Be Important to Maine's Economy 

Portland, ME - Congressional Candidate and Iraq War Veteran Adam Cote called on President Bush to rescind his veto threat and sign bipartisan legislation to expand the G.I. Bill passed to provide educational opportunity for veterans.   

"I am shocked that our President – who has had no trouble sending men and women into conflicts, extending their tours of duty and using the stop-loss provision to keep them in war zones after they have fulfilled their enlistments – has threatened to veto this bipartisan and important legislation," said Cote.  "Mr. President, sign this bill."  

Chellie Pingree has called on Congress to pass the 21st Century GI Bill, now before the Senate.   The bill passed the House last week.

"Veterans who have completed their service and are ready to come home deserve this," she said.  "They've fought for us.  Now it's our turn to stand up and fight for them."
