Energy Overload

Is there any politician in Maine that doesn't have an energy plan?

As far as I can tell we are being told we need more wind mills, more hydroelectric, more oil, less oil, more drilling, less drilling, more nuke plants, no nukes, more conservation, less consumption, more hybrids, less driving, more car pooling, different light bulbs, less speculation, tax credits, more transmission lines, more wood pellet stoves, more weatherization, a tuned up boiler, more solar panels and on and on.......

Q2 campaign finance report roundup

The following are the basics from the most recent round of campaign finance reports for Congressional candidates. The basics for U.S. Senate candidates Susan Collins and Tom Allen can be found here.

Since the primary election fell in the middle of the second quarter, the first number listed reflects the first part of the quarter, April 1 to May 21. The second number is the second part of the quarter, May 22 to June 30. The third number is either the total between the two halves, or the cycle-to-date total.

The plight of the Maine progressive?

Michaud last Maine superdelegate to endorse

U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud became the last of Maine’s superdelegate delegation to endorse, giving his vote to Sen. Barack Obama for President.

This means seven of Maine’s superdelegates will vote for Barack Obama, and one will vote for Hillary Clinton.

Obama won the amount of delegates needed to clinch the nomination Tuesday night, but Clinton has yet to decide how to proceed.

STATEMENT: ME AFL-CIO President Ed Gorham On Introduction of Trade Reform, Accountability, Development and Employment(TRADE) Act

Release Date: Jun 4 2008

I commend Congressmen Mike Michaud and Tom Allen today for introducing the Trade Reform, Accountability, Development and Employment (TRADE) Act.  Fixing broken trade policy is a vital step in turning around our failing economy. Reps. Michaud and Allen have once again demonstrated their leadership by promoting the protection of good jobs in Maine and across the country, and promoting workers’ rights around the world.

John Frary's GOP (Grand Old Punchers)

Zarvin’s Mike Tyson antics beg the question: Why are Maine Republican campaign staffers in New England so violent this cycle?

Things got a little out of hand last week at a Guilford Historical Society meeting in Piscataquis County. According to a May 29th Bangor Daily News article, the society's secretary, Zarvin Shaffer, allegedly punched fellow member Al Hunt in the jaw after a contentious meeting in which Shaffer's father, Robert Shaffer (president of the society) took some flack for removing some pictures from the local museum.

What the BDN article fails to mention is the connection between the Shaffers and John Frary, Republican nominee for the 2nd Congressional District.

‘Party like it’s June 11th’

Disclaimer: PolitickerME.com does not condone choosing a Congressional candidate based on their party planning abilities. The following information should be used for entertainment purposes only.

The Augusta Civic Center was littered with flyers for parties taking place in hospitality suites around the venue. “Bring your friends and party like it’s June 11th!!!” read a flyer for Ethan Strimling’s party.

PolitickerME took the liberty of rating the parties. The verdict? U.S. Reps. Tom Allen and Mike Michaud, and House candidate Ethan Strimling know how to throw a good party. But others could use some work.

Michaud: Solidarity Forever

Video: Sen. Beth Edmonds introduction, Part 1, Part 2

Video below: Supporters sing as Michaud leaves the stage

The “Michaud for Congress” signs circling in front of the stage to the tune of John Lennon’s “Power to the People” resembled a union picket. Given the nature of his speech, it was appropriate.

Fifteen minutes later he exited to the tune of “Solidarity Forever.”

U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud was lauded by many as a champion of trade issues, and in his speech he talked about his work fighting recent trade deals.
