Confirmation hearing turned toast to Ryan Low

Ryan Low, the deputy chief of staff to Gov. John Baldacci, earned the recommendation of the Legislature’s Appropriations Committee to be the top money man in the state Wednesday.

Wyke abandons FAME nomination, takes position at UMS

Rebecca Wyke, commissioner of the Department of Administrative and Financial Services, will soon by joining the University of Maine System as Vice Chancellor of Finance and Administration.

There she will oversee all system-wide business, operational and administrative functions.

Gov. John Baldacci has withdrawn her name from consideration as CEO of the Finance Authority of Maine.

Elizabeth Bordowitz, acting FAME CEO, will continue to lead the organization.

"Inappropriate manner"

An audit by the Office of the State Controller revealed that $4,000 in state and federal funds were used "in an inappropriate manner."

Inside sources say the lobbying arm of Verrill Dana and the Maine Cultural Affairs Council have some "issues". Keep an eye on this one:

It's never a good idea to piss-off Rebecca Wyke, the commissioner of administrative and financial services. Word is that the Ethics Commission may even visit the issue. more >
