King postpones Allen fundraiser

A fundraiser with three best-selling authors has been postponed because of a recent controversy.

Stephen King, John Grisham and Tess Gerritsen were scheduled to attend a June 7 fundraiser for Senate candidate and U.S. Rep. Tom Allen.

King made headlines after making the following comment in front of high school students in Washington D.C.:

Stephen King and political discourse

"I don't want to sound like an ad, a public service ad on TV, but the fact is if you can read, you can walk into a job later on. If you don't, then you've got, the Army, Iraq, I don't know, something like that. It's, it's not as bright. So, that's my little commercial for that."

Mr. King made those comments in Washington DC, while conducting a writer's symposium for high school students. Unlike his unique writing style, Mr. King's comments were nothing more than a rehash of John Kerry's comments

    Horror, suspense writers for Allen

    Senate candidate Tom AllenSenate candidate Tom AllenStephen King, John Grisham and Tess Gerritsen will be in the state to fund raise for Senate candidate Tom Allen.

    A chilling endorsement

    Stephen King is supporting Barack Obama, the Bangor Daily News reported Saturday.

    The best-selling horror-novelist, who just turned 60, is spending the winter in Sarasota, Fla. and is promoting his new novel Duma Key.

    King now lives in Bangor, and has spent time in many Maine towns throughout his life. He is a known Democrat, and is also supporting Tom Allen in the Senate race.
