They'll drink to that

Seacoast online is reporting that police have charged Republican State Senate candidate Kristi Bryant, of Kennebunkport, with operating under the influence and leaving the scene of a property damage accident. According to the article, all this took place shortly after midnight on August 22.

Bryant, a current Kennebunkport selectman, was recruited to run against incumbent State Senator Nancy Sullivan (D-Biddeford).  Although the chances of a Republican pickup in this district were slim to begin with, I'll bet the Democrats are raising their glasses to this new development.

CQ Politics has examined all of the roll-call votes during the seven-and-a-half years of President Bush's two terms.  The chart is a fascinating look at how congressman have voted during the Bush administration.  

Not surprisingly, both Senator Snowe and Senator Collins have the distinction of voting against the President more than any other Republican in the Senate.

The Hoffman - Bush connection

The Brunswick Times Record Editorial Board, taking a different perspective on Hoffman ballot story, took an opportunity to urge Democrats to use their support of the Maine Supreme Court decision to finally put to rest their obsession with the 2000 presidential vote in which the U.S. Supreme Court handed George W.  Bush a victory. 

"For the sake of consistency, Democrats who swallow [Maine Democratic Party spokeswoman Rebecca] Pollard's assertion should immediately and henceforth acknowledge that the U.S. Supreme Court's 2000 decision to award Florida's Electoral College votes to George Bush represents an equally valid affirmation of that same "rule of law."

Scontras takes stage in liberal forum

It was a tough room.

Dean Scontras, a Republican candidate for the First Congressional District, took the stage Tuesday with four Democrats vying for the CD1 seat. It was a forum put on by two leftist groups, and a crowd of mostly liberals.  read more »

Ambassador Cianchette?

Well, it appears as though loyalty does have its rewards. Peter Cianchette, a businessman from South Portland, Republican nominee for Governor in 2002 and long-time George Bush supporter has been nominates to be Ambassador to Costa Rica.
