The union representing over 1,000 carpenters in Maine has picked Chellie Pingree as the best candidate to represent Maine's 1st District in Congress.
"She supports working families trying to make it," said John Leavitt, Manager of Local 1996 of the New England Regional Council of Carpenters. "She supports companies that want to grow and create steady, good paying jobs. And you get what you see with Chellie--she's a straight shooter."
"Carpenters and their families are facing the same problems as everyone else in Maine--$4 gas, home heating oil that is double what it was a few years ago and higher prices for just about everything else," Pingree said. "Fixing our economy has to be the top priority for the next Congress. One of the first things we need to do is take immediate action to bring down the price of gas and home heating oil and help those who are struggling make it through the winter. And we need to invest in solutions to our energy problems that create new sources of clean energy and new jobs here in Maine."
