Losers

Democrats in the State House

Democrats took charge this week and did so without any competition as republicans endorsed the democrat slate of constitutional officer and house and senate leadership. The new spirit of consensus is definitely a good thing fro the democrats.

The State budget

A short fall now, a structural gap topping 800 million in 2010-11 is bad news followed by worse news for the Governor and the 124th Legislature.

Janet Mills

Mills walks away on the second ballot to win the Attorney General Post, the first woman to do so.

Republicans in the State House

Consensus can be effective, but too much too early in the session may prove to be a costly strategy.

Senator Snowe and Senator Collins

he moderate republican duo from Maine continue to dominate in the world of pundits, blogs and newspaper columnists in their new role as the “deciders" of the filibuster.

College Students with State of Maine Grants.

The Finance Authority of Maine has reduced the State of Maine Grant from $600 to $540 in an effort to meet the Governor’s budget reduction targets.

Seth Berry

Representative Berry snags the House Asst. Leader post on the first ballot, a tough feat in any race with three or more candidates.

Sean Faircloth

The former Representative from Bangor and AG candidate was defeated in the second round. The actual defeat may have come earlier, as he was the recipient of a fairly well orchestrated attack on his credentials and his integrity. Of course anyone that knows Faricloth, also knows he will be back.
